my work

web rabbit 4.0

starting halfway there

right after the mobile redesign wrapped up i went immediately to work on the web platform. the web platform is home to around 70% of our traffic which is why we planned to convert web after mobile, so we could use the learnings from the mobile client to improve the v1 of the web client. the biggest challenge with the web client was that there was too much space at first, especially the group chat, which forced me to think critically on how to best utilize the space which lead to the greatly improved shared content cards.

use it or lose it

thinking more about how to utilize the real estate on desktop, i starting thinking about room previews and what it would be like to take a room with you. If we wanted to increase day 1 retention we would need to introduce new features to keep the users engaged and make it easy to come back and watch again.

all about the room

I then focused on the room and watch experience. the room is the most important part of the product as that would be the place the user spends the most amount of time. it was also one of the oldest codebases in the product and the most difficult to change. for that reason we focused on most visual and interaction improvements and didn’t change the major layout of the page. after the room was complete, i moved on to the other secondary screens.
